CAN DISCIPLINE BE TAUGHT?

“Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.”

Discipline is considered to be a key to success and certainly, there is no doubt on the same but sometimes this word becomes critical when it is used in reference to the education
field. There has been much controversy regarding the same which is not on how important it is in our schools that are considered to be temples of learning but on how to maintain it
and how to teach it to the students so that they can inculcate this as an innate value for their further life. Discipline word has never been new to the disciples. The word discipline means to impart knowledge and skill to teach. However, it is often equated with punishment and control. There is a great deal of controversy regarding the appropriate ways to discipline children. Teachers and parents are often confused about effective ways to set limits and instill self-control in their children. Over the last few decades there
has been a vast change in the field of education and society too that has given rise to several issues and debates over the same questioning, if there is no corporal punishment allowed then how can a child be made disciplined? or how can a teacher or parent control the child?

But this all is the one side of the coin as a child can never be mended or taught anything by rebuking or hurting him as by yelling at a child, not to yell, you are already teaching him how to yell. One needs to comprehend that this is all about unswerving the
energy of a child in such a way that he may do something productive and creative.  channelizing a child’s energy is an art in itself that a teacher or parent must know and for that one not even requires touching the child and gone are the days of corporal punishment. Being a teacher gives your naughtiest disciple charge of having a look at others telling him how he can help you in controlling the class and make a difference.  instead of rebuking him all the time for poor grades tell him how much important he and
his grades are for you and him too, why do you think he can progress soon and so on, Share with him how you were one of them in your old days and how he is still better than you. This all will be helping to develop a sense of responsibility in him rather than persuading him to think that all the people are after his life or he is worthless. Once you even think to raise your hand remember tomorrow maybe a day when he may make you feel proud and your contribution in his life will be unforgettable enriching your journey of life as an educationalist or parent.
